A letter to a little girl:

2313epiphany

Hey there, little one,

How do you do?

I’ve come from the future to

Check up on you

To see you smile, see you giggle,

And all things sunny

To see you laugh at every dad’s joke

Even though they’re not funny

I’ve come from another land

Far, far away

Where only these jokes will help you

To live another day

No time to think, no time to survive

Or gasp a tiny bit

No time to talk, no time to walk

Or eat or blink or sit

A land where dragons and monsters

Really do exist

A land where people hate people,

It’s a never ending list

A land where lives are destroyed

In the name of war

A land where everything you’ve ever loved

Is declared no more

I see your boy band stickers

Kept secret in your room

Cherish it all you can

Before you grow up too soon

It’s a scary, dark place

With little to no light

But holding candles you’ll find

Your people, so bright

This land haunts, this land hunts

This land burns you to the ground

Though grief and sorrow unveil

A cathartic, melodious sound

A sound you will sing loudly

To the monsters, to the dragons

And the seething Sun

Stay happy, little one

‘Fore this land hands you a

Nepenthe loaded gun.
